Bing is here, should I care?

I have been asked this questions a couple times now.  Should I care about Microsoft’s bing?  My quick and easy answer is yes.  Any avenue that pushes traffic to your site is something to think about.  Bing just happens to be the new kid on the block.  While it still does not have the volume traffic that Google, Yahoo, or even Ask have it has some amazing features that help break down search and be more consumer oriented.

With that said, Cuil opened last year with a massive press fanfare, but has not been nearly as visible since then.  New comers like Cuil, and now Bing, have the unenviable task of clawing away at the market share of search giants Google and Yahoo.

The longer answer to moving your web strategy to Bing is not as straight forward, and brings up more questions. Does it matter if you are first to Bing? Does your demographic consist of early adopters? Can you afford to have your SEO/SEM strategy moved across another search engine?  If the answers to these questions are yes, then Bing could provide opportunities and revenue streams.  If not Bing could just be another footnote in the long line of forgotten search engines, such as Lycos, Alta Vista, Excite, DogPile, Meta Crawler, HotBot, Infoseek, Magellan, LookSmart, etc.
